Soprano estadounidense. Se formó en la Juilliard School. En 1952, después de su debut en una reposición de
Four Saints in Three Acts, se hizo conocida en una gira internacional de
Porgy and Bess (1953–55). En 1960 fue la protagonista de
Aïda en el teatro de la Scala de Milán y en 1961 hizo su debut en el Metropolitan Opera. Price fue una de las más populares estrellas de esta última sala durante más de dos décadas y la primera cantante afroamericana en alcanzar una reputación internacional en el mundo de la ópera.
